WIN victims receive free legal advice and are represented in court if necessary. These victims are informed of their legal rights and legal status and help them decide on measures to take against the offender. The Embassy has compiled a local list of lawyers (PDF 238 KB) who have expressed interest in representing Americans. The Embassy assumes no responsibility for the integrity or professional performance of the listed individuals or companies. In addition, the Embassy cannot guarantee that the lawyers on the list will be able or willing to provide legal services in all cases. Since its creation, the Community Legal Aid Centre has assisted nearly 3000 people in various areas such as filing complaints, pursuing their procedures, etc. Some cases are still heard by the courts. Other high-level cases will be dealt with in the near future. The Community Legal Aid Centre (CLAC) promotes understanding and belief in democratic lifestyle and the protection of human rights by providing financial support and legal advice to all Sri Lankans who cannot afford to pay court fees to file a claim in a Sri Lankan court or the International Court of Justice against an illegal or unjustifiable act committed by an individual.
